CHINESE SILVER TRAY c1910 B. P. DE SILVA, SINGAPORE - IN CASE An important turn of the century, Chinese silver presentation tray for the Indian market in its original fitted presentation case. From the renowned work shop of B. P. De Silva, originally located at 21 High Street Singapore, China. Later with several additional shops, including Ceylon, now Sri Lanka. Opened shop in 1872. Over the years appointed by the Singapore Royal house to craft important commissions. By the 1890s, his clients included the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, Cornwall, and York the King of Siam and royalty throughout Europe & Asia. This tray was presented to a Superintendent upon his retirement from the Light House Keepers, a group who maintained colonial British constructed lighthouses in Ceylon beginning in the 1860s. The tray is 14 1/2 inches by 10 inches and weighs a bit over 14 standard ounces. The tray itself unmarked. Tests sterling. The original case with shop logo of BP De Silva. In fine condition. Rich sterling patina. Retains original detail. Very mild surface wear. Case with water staining to cover as shown. Tray ships world wide. Applicable sales tax.
